Dr. Afroza

Japan is called the “Land of Rising Sun” and I have got an opportunity for training at Tokyo Women’s Medical University. When I reached at Narita International Airport, it was raining. Thanks Dr. Hasegawa to receive me and guide and travel to my apartment and I enjoyed the sight-seeing of Japan. The first day I can’t sleep at my apartment as it is new place. The next day was sunny and weather was clear and good and miss Maiko Kunimi welcomed cordially and informed about everything of our living at apartment and transport. During my training period, it was Ramadan and I missed my family very much. The hospital and the extra- academic activities had enriched my knowledge.

Hospital Activities:

My training started at hospital. I had a chance to see some cases from different sonographers and surgeons. I spent morning hours to see different patient like deep venous thrombosis, varicose vein, venous valve insufficiency and how to scan venous duplex ultrasound. I also benefited by lecture delivered by Prof.
Dr. Takashi Yamaki. We also saw some clinical scenario and MRI cases. We learnt musculoskeletal scan by hand surgeon at orthopedic department. We saw how to do wrist joint scan, hand and elbow joint scan along with nerve scanning. We also saw ankle joint scan, ligament tear and muscle tear. We had a great time at Gynecology and obstetrics department. We saw obstetrics patient how to do 4D ultrasound, Color Doppler and Anomaly Scan. We also spent a few hours with Dr. Kakogawa learning some cases of obstetrics like trisomy 18(Edward Syndrome), Congenital heart diseases, Esophageal atresia, Talipes (congenital club foot) etc.

Extra-academic activities:

Prof. Sakurai gave us his valuable time to visit Cannon Toshiba Company where they receive us and give a fantastic lecture regarding latest technology and a brief hands-on a newer machine named Toshiba Aplio i-900. We also were roaming at Ameyoko bazar.

We had a party at Shinjuku where plastic surgeons Prof. Nozaki, Prof. Sakurai and Prof. Takeuchi present there and it was a great one to see them at a time and eat dinner. We enjoyed Japanese food and gossiping with each other, taking photos and enjoying the time.

We visited some areas of Tokyo city and Akihabara, Ikebukuro etc. We had a look around both inner and outer market. I also see the east garden of Tokyo imperial palace and subway railway stations.

So, it was my learning process that continued through the months. I was trying to gather new things to enrich my knowledge.
